ABOUT BOTOX®
Botox® is an FDA approved purified protein which is injected into targeted muscles and temporarily blocks nerve signals that cause muscle movement, essentially relaxing the muscle which reduces or eliminates fine lines and wrinkles
Within 5-7 days of the Botox® injection, the treated facial muscles become temporarily relaxed, causing the overlying skin to lay flat and unwrinkled. The untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion allowing facial expression to be unaffected.
Botox® may also be used as an alternative treatment for TMJ disorders and associated jaw tension and pain. Botox® has the potential to relive TMJ and jaw tension, helping to eliminate headaches resulting from teeth grinding, and clenching. Because Botox® for TMJ is an alternative treatment it is not covered under dental insurance.
Botox® injections only take a few minutes and will remain effective for 36 months.
